• Locating The Perfect Bald Fade

Observe current men’s hair trends and one of the most prevalent styles is the bald fade. It is clean, precise, and coveted. I’ve been to may stylists to get a great cut and have discovered that each has their own technique or craft. However, I have not been wowed by anyone for quite some time. I decided to do a bit of asking around for suggestions and found lot’s of advice, but no one could put my in touch with “the guy.”

A neighbor sent my to Zeus on South First St. and one of their barbers did a really great job, but the outcome wasn’t edgy enough for me. My cut was a simple, close, tapered haircut. It didn’t have a wow factor to it. After a number of haircuts with the same outcome, I decided to try another Zeus location (4360 S. Congress, 512-443-4142) and use another barber. Essentially, Zeus Barber Shop is a walk-in only type of place, but for an extra $10, you can ask a barber to hold an appointment time. The surcharge is literally compensation to the barber for turning away business – they’re that busy! The South Congress location has a bit more swagger and the camaraderie between patrons and barbers is overtly obvious. The barbers joke, dish a bit of masculine shade, and all seem very serious about their craft.

Serendipitously, I fell into the chair of “Ramz.” I have to say the man was unbelieveably meticulous. He executed his cut with surgical precision. He listened to what I wanted, worked with my wiry silver hair, and gave me one of the best “tight” fades I’ve ever had. The price was absurdly cheap for the amount of time dedicated to the cut. If you want an “old school” look and cut and don’t want to mess around with trying to find a great barber, go to Zeus. Ask for Ramz.  He books online at schedulicity.com

    Summer Sun and Sunglasses

Am I the only one who losses my sunglasses all the time?

    – or scratches them
    – or bends them out of shape

Well, they are a summer must. A little tip for you: Nordstrom Rack, Neiman’s Last Call and Macy’s (Sunglass Hut mini-store) all are great places to buy your shades and avoid top retail prices.  The styles are up-to-date and the price point won’t make you wince.

  • Keeping it Safe

I think everyone should own a safe – or at least a lock-box. I got mine on sale after the holidays at Staples for $99 and it is fireproof, waterproof, and uses both a key and combination lock. I gave my sister the combo and a key and I keep the second set. It is the best place to keep legal items, personal documents, and items you would not want burned or stolen.
