- After the Holiday ShoppingWine. Weather. Weird. That pretty much sums up Fredericksburg, Texas; a strange little anomaly in Central Texas. It used to be quaint and loaded with shabby chic stores filled with dead animals turned into furniture, but it in recent years has upped its game, so to speak. One of my ongoing favorite stops is Vaudeville. I have mentioned it before and it is certainly worth investigating. Try the tea room/cafe. Spend an hour or so in the car driving from Austin and enjoy wine tastings, shopping, then eat a German pastry and head back to ATX. Vaudeville_card
- Fredericksburg RevisitedI had the opportunity to attend a grand birthday party in Fredericksburg and the adventure never let up. The weekend included everything from fabulous dining, to great shopping finds, to gorgeous architecture and landscapes, and a lot of fine wine time. Here are a few of my favorites from the weekend. Dogologie Dogologie was one of the most curious pet stores I’ve visited. The inventory range was extraordinary. Best thing… You can go online and shop! Rooster painting
The art galleries! Be sure to wander down the side streets of Fredericksburg anytime you;re there. I was quite surprised at the quality of goods on the side streets. I was completely unaware of all the art the city had to offer. T-Shirt Kitschy clothing: there was a lot of country-themed stuff in Fredericksburg, but there was also a lot of nice clothing and housewares. While the shabby chic look was in full force, one can still find purchase worthy goods. Last but not least, Vaudeville. One place you simply must visit. Spectacular! Food, drink, shopping… all under one umbrella.
- Willkommen Fredericksburg! (Day Trip)Looking for a single day get-away, we decided to hop in the car and head northwest of Austin to Fredericksburg, Texas. I hadn’t visited the town in a while, so I was due for a little culture, shopping, dining, etc.. The town was surprising hopping, but I think people wanted to get out and about since we had been having crappy weather all week and Saturday was quite nice. The food, meh. I can’t even recall the name of the place we ate, but chili and cornbread seemed fine for a winter day. Cheap and easy. Shopping… well there was a lot of the usual; toffee, coffee, chocolate, pies, ice cream, fudge, popcorn, nick-nacs, shabby chic, antler furniture, toiletries, etc… I was surprised to see the number of high-end stores; galleries, supper clubs, sundries, and design studios. Apparently, the 1% found Fredericksburg! We stopped in house. wine., a local wine pub, and had a few glasses of vino. it was a nice retreat from he hustle and bustle of the street. I think a weekday would be best of you’re in the mood to shop. house. wine. Bistro bar open sequin deer
