Fantastic Travel Saving Ideas and Leads
During my morning routine of coffee, pet care, showering, etc… I’ve got some news channel feeding me the daily updates. Generally, GMA is the program of choice. Today they did not disappoint. There was a great segment on travel and how to save money. View it here.
Here were the take-aways:
1. Fly into larger airports, then drive to your destination, you’ll save but compare the savings first.
2. Rent your car at the larger airport, competition drives prices down.
They also listed a number of useful links:
backbid.com (hotels bid for your business if you have an existing reservation)hotelied.com (uses your social media to match you to a hotel)stayful (less than 30 days out, best for independent establishments)Two minor, but still interesting, links were:scoutmob (locally curated goods and events)Enjoy and spend the money you save. You only live once! -

Look What the Tide Brought In
I’ve driven down South First hundreds of times and one of my favorite stops on the way home used to be the El Chile restaurant on the corner of SoFi and Mary. I always enjoyed a chelada and the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. But no more! Alas, out with the Mexican plates and in with coastal flair. Alcomar has burst onto the food scene with a very big splash and a wildly divergent menu form the former offerings.
I loved the place – albeit a tad too loud for my comfort. The food was great, the atmosphere festive and calming, the cocktails delicious and the service very agreeable. The Gulf Oysters were served ice cold with tasty sauces. The rest of my meal consisted of random appetizers; the snapper ceviche, I believe. I like a bit of heat in my ceviche and this was on the less spicy side, but it was very fresh and well presented.
Kudos to the team for another great place to join the family that includes; El Alma, El Chile, El Sapo and now Alcomar.

Best Suburbs? They’ve Listed The Whole City!
This is almost humorous. From what I know about Rollingwood/Bee Cave, the kids come out of Eanes schools with a warped sense of reality and a bit maladjusted. IMHO, Eanes ISD student population has an issue with drugs in the community; particularly after students graduate.

I’ve just heard of this site through the grapevine and have not yet dived into it, but I do like the concept of a community of insiders.

X Games, Austin: Here We Go Again
Another high-profile event will soon descend on Austin. This time it is the X Games coming to town. I’ve seen some of the sporting events on TV, but have never experienced anything in person. I am curious what the crowds will be like and what types of people the event will bring to town.
